She's Always A Woman To Me

Billy Joel - She's Always a Woman
Found at skreemr.com

When I was sixteen, I was sitting in my then boyfriend's sun bleached old white toyota driving figure 8s in the school parking lot after some function and this song started playing. We both decided it was my song (how flattering of him... I should have realized then that he would turn out to be gay!). I give this song probably a little too much slack for being kind of sexist and dated. But I have a soft spot for Billy Joel.

I don't talk a lot about being mentally ill, but I see a lot that resonates in this song. I also see a lot of my ED in here. Find your own meanings. If you like it, make it your own.

---
She can kill with a smile
She can wound with her eyes
She can ruin your faith with her casual lies
And she only reveals what she wants you to see
She hides like a child,
But she's always a woman to me

She can lead you to love
She can take you or leave you
She can ask for the truth
But she'll never believe
And she'll take what you give her, as long as it's free
Yeah, she steals like a thief
But she's always a woman to me

Oh--she takes care of herself
She can wait if she wants
She's ahead of her time
Oh--and she never gives out
And she never gives in
She just changes her mind

And she'll promise you more
Than the Garden of Eden
Then she'll carelessly cut you
And laugh while you're bleedin'
But she'll bring out the best
And the worst you can be
Blame it all on yourself
Cause she's always a woman to me

She is frequently kind
And she's suddenly cruel
She can do as she pleases
She's nobody's fool
And she can't be convicted
She's earned her degree
And the most she will do
Is throw shadows at you
But she's always a woman to me

I have this song on my iPod...it actually holds a soft spot for me. It was the first song my boyfriend sang to me one night on the phone (he was drunk so I try not to analyze his choice too much lol). He use to be a professional musical theatre actor.

i am going to have to read that song a couple more times...

so...did you order the pizza? regardless, it's Saturday! enjoy! and of course I am the last person who should judge...especially when I am SO far behind on the weight thing! I think I can make 120 by months end. Think. Not sure. Although today, I managed to down close two litres of water.

anyway, i think my latest entry was more for me than for anyone else...i think my posts have been spiralling downwards (mirroring my life at the mo) without any control or anyone pulling the reigns. have to keep emotions in check. but i always found it better to take a piss at my tragic state as opposed to just being sad because as you said happiness is over-rated and the suffering (subsequently enjoying suffering...) is the way to go.

God I sound like Nietzsche. well you know how that goes...Nietzsche's peachy!

bSve

(this goes without saying, but I too adore you so much!!!)

I have never heard this song, but now I think I need to download it. To be honest, this type of music isn't normally up my ally, but I'm a sucker for good lyrics.

Though I don't see how it's sexist? Maybe that's just me, but it seems to be (from the original writers point of view) that it's describing a woman who's the classic "vixen". Who's cruel, and childish, and insecure, but still beautiful, strong, and has something about her that makes her powerful on both good and bad levels. An individual, rather than an entire sex :3

I can see how this would relate to the ED portion, though. I had to read it twice--once to see that, and once to try to see the original meaning. Very pretty.
